Raise your hand if the only exercise that you seem to get these days is going from the couch to the refrigerator! My exercise most days, is climbing up and down the stairs to my home office each day. I feel guilty if I take time out of a ‘work day’ to exercise or run errands. I have this built in fear that I should be working either with a client or on my business every day, all day long! If I am not on the phone, computer, or physically working with a client at their homes I should not be out exercising, running errands, or having fun I feel guilty; why? Who knows, but I think it has to do with working in very structured environments for 40+ years where I may be questioned or criticized if I did not look busy. Now that I work for me, myself, and I there is no one but me to find fault.
It is more difficult than I thought to break out of this zone! You would think I would be able to shut down the guilty feeling when I am out enjoying myself in the middle of what is a work day. I am trying real hard to overcome this feeling. To lower the guilt and accomplish the right balance, I am scheduling break periods during the day. An hour or two, or more if I want, to exercise or run errands; and on Fridays, if possible, I avoid scheduling clients and close down by 2 pm to start enjoying the weekend.
So when I saw an announcement for Couch Potato to 5K Runner Training being offered by a local shopping plaza for FREE it made me stop I do not need anyone’s permission to sign up for this training – if I want – but maybe I will start out just building up my daily walking regimen and leave the 5K running to later this summer!
It’s time to update my bucket list. Where is that list?
