Are you getting tired of texting, emailing, or social media in general? There are times I have to say yes and no! Ten years ago most of us were barely coming up to speed with cell phones, internet, emailing. Today we are not able to disconnect from our devices and the world knows far too much about our lives. Our electronic devices are our new
communication comfort zone.
We now “google it” to find instantaneous information about anything we want to know; we text friends instead of calling, we email instead of writing a letter, and we share all kinds of life information on social media instead of waiting until friends and family gather together or talk via phone. For the most part we have very little personal relationships other than through our electronic devices.
Step away from the electronics! Shut them down, don’t be instantaneously available to the world, family, or business 24/7. Set some boundaries. Instead of being a slave to our devices let’s; write thank you notes, birthday and anniversary cards and mail them via the U.S. Postal Service; call your friends and family to see how they are instead of texting; invite people together to socialize to catch up on each other’s news and events. Communicating in person is the only real way to completely understand how people are feeling and reacting to the world around them.
We have created a new comfort zone and we need to breakout and shutdown periodically to really hear, see, feel and react personally with our friends and family.
